Alex and I were again involved with another fantastic Activate Inclusion Sports Day in late October that saw over 100 students participate in 6 different sports (AFL, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball). The event was the works of Sport NSW and Variety NSW & ACT and this time hosted at Maitland Basketball Centre.
The day saw plenty of talent and fun from all sports and players involved. For many it was the change to engage in a brand new sport, and for others it provided them with the opportunity to be leaders by showcasing their already existing skills.
It was an exciting day for football as Alex and I were given the task of identifying some outstanding players to be part of a potential inclusive futsal league. There were many players during the day that were demonstrating outstanding skills including some students from Tomaree High School and Rutherford Technology High School.
After the day finished, there were plenty of tired students (and sport deliverers!) and thanks to the generosity of Maitland City Council each student went home with a gift bag! A fabulous day was had by all and we very much look forward to working with Sport NSW and Variety to attend more of these days in the future.
