Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility will play host to over 280 of the region’s best junior players over the next 3 days for the 2016 Telstra Youth Challenge.
The Telstra Youth Challenge will host 13 years and 14 years boys sides with competition commencing tomorrow at 8.30am and continuing until Thursday.
Nine (9) squads will compete in each age division, consisting of sides from Northern NSW Football’s four regional zones, Football Far North Coast, Football Mid North Coast, North Coast Football and Northern Inland Football, as well as sides representing the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues competition and Lake Macquarie City FC from the NewFM First Division competition.
The Emerging Jets 12 and 13 Years boys’ sides will also be participating in the tournament.
Northern NSW Football’s Technical Director Michael Browne is looking forward to the tournament this week and the opportunity to assess players participating.
“This is the second edition of the tournament and we are looking forward to seeing players from the Country Zones perform against local NPL players,” Browne said.
“At the end of the tournament we will select a provisional squad in both the under 13 and under 14 age groups who will represent Northern NSW Country in the National Youth Championships at Coffs Harbour in October,” Browne concluded.
Tomorrows opening fixtures will see Edgeworth FC versus Valentine FC kick off the 13 year division at 8.30am on Field 2 and Football Mid North Coast and Weston Workers FC in the 14 years at 8.30am on Field 1.
