Sixteen (16) teams throughout Northern NSW will battle it out this weekend in the annual TAFE NSW Women’s State Cup held at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, Speers Point kicking off Friday night, 5 July and concluding on Sunday evening, 7 July.

Six (6) member zones will be represented in the tournament, including eight (8) Herald Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams and eight (8) community teams, which includes one (1) composite team from North Coast Football (NCF), highlighting the enormous amount of talent present across the women’s game in Northern NSW.

This year will see the introduction of the inaugural TAFE NSW Community Plate which will be contested between the highest-finishing community clubs that do not move on to the Women’s State Cup Finals.

There will be many teams to watch out for this weekend including the side who open the tournament, New Lambton FC.

The Eagles are in top form this season, currently sitting 12 points clear at the top of the Herald WPL Competition and possess the stellar strike force of Tara Andrews and Lauren Allen. Newcastle Jets W-League striker Andrews currently leads the Golden Boot race for 2019 WPL season with an incredible 36 goals, from 12 games, while Allen has also scored 21.

They’ll face off with the Wallsend Red Devils who last year fell short in the Grand Final, and they’ll be focused on going one better this year to grab their first piece of major silverware as a team, while a side that has extensive experience in winning trophies is that of Merewether United who are currently back-to-back defending champions of the Herald WPL but has still yet to win the mid-season Cup.

Warners Bay FC, who won the inaugural title back in 2017, has been in top goal-scoring form in the Herald WPL having scored 62 goals in their 15 games to sit in second place, and they’ll be hoping that form can continue as they meet the defending TAFE NSW Women’s State Cup champions Adamstown Rosebud in Group C.

Also in the group and coming up against those sides is composite team, North Coast Football, who have scouted players from their premier division teams with the intention of creating a strong, united side – will be hoping the team can gel quickly in order to be a threatening force.

An interesting match-up is set to take place in Group B, as Herald WPL side Football Mid North Coast, will be facing off with another club from their region, Western Phoenix FC. These two similarly-ranked teams are looking to battle it out and showcase the talent from the Football Mid North Coast Member Zone.

This year TAFE NSW will present three (3) ‘TAFE NSW Player of the Match’ awards , one from the Community Plate Final and two (2) from the TAFE NSW State Cup Semi-Finals, before then announcing the TAFE NSW Player of the Series from the Grand Final of the 2019 Women’s State Cup.

The first round of fixtures kick-off at 6:30 pm this Friday, with New Lambton FC taking on Wallsend FC, followed by the 2017 Women’s State Cup Champions Warners Bay FC and 2018 Women’s TAFE NSW State Cup Champions Adamstown Rosebuds JFC on Field 1 and Hunter Valley Football club Maitland JFC challenging Herald WPL heavyweights South Wallsend JSC on Field 2 from 7:30 pm.
