#21: Metford Cobras get a late Christmas present!

January 6th, 2020

Christmas was extended for our Metford Cobras after being selected to participate in the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots program.

The Goals for Grassroots program aims to provide financial support for grassroots clubs across Australia. By donating an initial $1,000 to clubs plus an additional $1,000 for every goal scored by the local team, the program often provides vital funds for community football clubs.

Metford were selected as the Goals for Grassroots club for round 12 of the A-League which saw the Newcastle Jets take on a closely matched Brisbane Roar. A goal from Dimi Petratos mid-way through the first half saw the Jets take the lead and an incredible $1,000 be put in the bank for the Metford Cobras. A tough fought game, and a late goal from Brisbane saw the Jets walk away with 1 point for their efforts.

While the Jets unfortunately didn’t walk away with the win, it was hard for the Metford Cobras to feel like they didn’t come out on top that day. With an amazing $2,000 being donated to the club, there were plenty of smiles and lots of gratitude for the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots Program.
