After all the excitement of the FFA Cup match in Maitland the night before, I hit the road on Thursday August 1 for Ballina and my long-planned trip to the Football Far-North Coast Region. After a long trip and some fantastic solo car karaoke, I checked in to my Ballina base for the next few days, located only a stones-throw away from Saunders Oval (Home of Ballina SC) where we had a
training visit planned. Unfortunately the recent rainfall up there got the better of us and MiniRoos training was called off for the night. The skies would soon clear up for a short while, allowing me enough time for a happy snap with the famous local landmark, The Big Prawn – now located in the Bunnings Carpark!
After a quiet rest day with another few rain showers, my planned trip to Byron Bay FC on Saturday was unfortunately washed out (second time this year for our MiniRoos trips, hopefully third time will be the charm!). Thanks to some quick thinking from Football Far North Coast GM Steve Mackney and Lismore Richmond Rovers President Thomas Gough, I would find myself visiting the Rovers at Neilson Park. It was a great day with lots of excited youngsters earning some cool Newcastle Permanent prizes with some excellent MiniRoos Target Practice. A big thank you to Thomas and all the Rovers volunteers who were very helpful on the day!
Then on Sunday August 4, it was the big one. I headed out to the Alstonville Junior Carnival, a long time event held annually by Alstonville Football Club at Geoff Watt Oval. Clubs from as far away as the NSW/QLD border all the way down to Sawtell came along, with 1200+ juniors taking part in the mammoth day of football! They all had a great time keeping me super-busy with the ALDI MiniRoos Kicking Target and handing out our Newcastle Permanent prizes. Congratulations to Glenn Hargrave (Carnival Coordinator) and the huge team of volunteers at Alstonville FC for putting on an absolutely fantastic day of football, thank you for having me along!
