Awabakal take out PCYC Nations of Origin boys & girls Football Fives tournament

July 18th, 2019

Yesterday, 17 July, the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility (LMRFF) played host to the annual PCYC Nations of Origin Football Fives Tournament featuring 24 teams – 12 male and 12 female teams – from 10 nations across NSW.

The PCYC Nations of Origin empowers and motivates youth to celebrate Australia’s diverse indigenous culture and its deep impact on our history and their stories, focusing on four main components Reconciliation, Education, Cultural Identity and Sport.

Teams were organised into two groups of six and each team consisted of five (5) Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and three (3) people of non-Aboriginal descent.

Teams who finished 1st & 2nd from each group competed for the overall Premiers title for boys & girls, while there was also a Cup final for teams who finished 3rd & 4th from the group rounds.

All teams competed in the fun spirit of the day in a terrific atmosphere created around the venue.

The Premier winners on the day were:

Boys – Awabakal Red

Girls – Awabakal Black (this final was decided by golden goal)

The Cup winners on the day were:

Boys – Awabakal White (this final was decided by golden goal)

Girls – Dharawal (this final was decided by penalties)
