Broadmeadow Magic have joined Newcastle Olympic as Northern NSW Football’s representatives in the 2021 FFA Cup national round of 32.
A late Luke Virgili goal saw Broadmeadow down Weston Workers FC 2-1 in their FFA Cup seventh preliminary round match at Magic Park on Wednesday night.
Mitch Rooke gave Broadmeadow the lead just before the half hour mark as he headed home a fabulous James Virgili cross past Weston goalkeeper Stuart Plant.
While Magic enjoyed the bulk of possession and field position Weston managed to stay in the game and drew level with 25 minutes to play.
Veteran Nathan Morris whipped a devilish free kick into the penalty area, with Cooper Buswell flicking his captain’s effort home.
Both sides chased a winner, with Luke Virgili prodding home from a corner with five minutes remaining to see Broadmeadow advance.
Magic join their bitter rivals Newcastle Olympic as Northern NSW Football’s representatives in the national round of 32, with the draw to be made on 8 July.
Olympic advanced earlier this month when they downed Coastal Premier League leaders Coffs City United 1-0 in their seventh preliminary round clash.
Broadmeadow will play in the round of 32 for a fifth time, while Olympic will make their debut on the national stage.
