On the Bench with Beth Le Gay Brereton
Team: Adamstown Rosebuds
Beth began her football career at the age of 7 with her local team, the Gwandalan Cobras in the region of Lake Macquarie. Beth remained with the Cobras until she was 11 years of age, where she was selected to play for the then operating State Youth League representative team, Central Coast Lightning, and continued to build on her tactics with Lightning until 2012.
2013 proved an important year for Le Gay Brereton, not only being selected for Northern NSW to play at the Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls in Coffs Harbour but also being recognised by the Emerging Jets.
The following year, Beth made selection for the Central Coast Mariners and competed in their PS4 NPL NSW Women’s competition in Sydney. Beth remained with the Central Coast Mariners for the following season until last year, where at the age of 18 she made the decision to trial with Herald WPL’s side Adamstown Rosebud.
Beth says her greatest career highlight was making the move to the Adamstown Rosebud’s last season, she says she loves the positive atmosphere that comes with playing with the Buds.
Beth explained, “this group of girls are some of the best you’ll ever meet, and always have your back on and off the field”.
As for personal achievements this season, Beth is looking to play this season with more confidence, and as for the Buds, “I’m hoping as a team we are able to be competitive, but also just have fun while doing so!”
WPL PLAYERS PROFILE:
Beth has a lot of respect for fellow Rosebud’s player, Emily Frost. She says Frosty is “someone I have great admiration for, because I know she will put in 100% no matter what”. Beth continued, “she is always so positive and encouraging… she is the definition of ‘team player’”.
OFF THE FIELD:
Beth has taken a semester from University to save some money, in the meantime working at a pizza shop before starting her Bachelor of Psychology after semester break in July. Apart from working and playing the beautiful game, Beth loves to spend her time with her family and catching up with friends!
