CHITCHAT:

After a few seasons playing for Newcastle based Herald Women’s Premier Leagues (WPL) clubs, Shannon Day is back where it all started; the Mid North Coast.

Day began playing football at the age of nine for her local club in Wauchope. Day continued to play with Wauchope Soccer Club, working her way up through grades and eventually playing within the men’s competitions.

Day made her first WPL appearance in 2010, playing for Valentine FC. Day continued to play for Valentine FC for another three seasons and secured two Grand Finals with the club in her four seasons. In 2014, Day signed with Merewether and following a successful first season with her new club, Day signed for another year. It was this year, in 2015, that Day aided her team in winning the Grand Final against her old club, Valentine FC.

2016 saw Day sign with the Wallsend Devils, and again Day made it to the Grand Final with her team, however, lost to Warners Bay.

This year, Day decided to head back up the coast to where it all started, signing with Football Mid North Coast (FMNC).

Making consistent Grand Finals has always been a proud moment for Shannon, so this year Shannon’s setting her sights on the top 4 in a hope to make it right to the top again!

WPL PLAYERS’ PLAYER:

At first, Shannon didn’t know who to mention as her WPL players’ player; with so many outstanding players in the competition, we can understand how it would be difficult to name just one! However, Shannon decided that her players’ player mention would go to Warners Bay’s player and coach, Cassidy Davis! Shannon believes that Cass is a great player, “she has achieved a lot [as a player] and I respect her a lot as a player,” stated Day. “She knows how to play the game well, and is a smart player,” she continued.

OFF THE FIELD:

When Shannon isn’t playing soccer, she may be found playing futsal. This year Shannon represented Australia for futsal, travelling to Spain with three other WPL players and making it all the way to the Grand Final against USA. In her spare time, Shannon likes to relax by watching television or by going on adventures with her partner and their dog.
