About Premier Youth Cup

The purpose of introducing these tournaments is to benchmark the technical standard of the NL1 compared to NPL and to identify players in the NL1 who have the potential to trial for NNSWF Talent Support Program, as well as further identify players within NPL. NNSWF will have Technical advisors and other technical staff present throughout the tournaments to not only identify players but also provide support to the club coaching staff. This tournament will also give more games of an appropriate level for teams at the top of NPL through to the bottom of Northern League One.

Participating Teams

The competitions will run for all 14 Years and 15 Years teams in both NPL and NL1 who elect to participate with the exception of the North Coast Football, Football Mid North Coast, and Northern Inland Academy due to the midweek travel involved.

Format

Matches will be played in a half field format of 9v9, with matches consisting of 25-minute halves.

All teams will be split into 3 competitions based on their league position1 2 at the halfway point of the season – The Premier Youth Cup, the Premier Youth Trophy, and the Premier Youth Plate.

The Premier Youth Cup will comprise the top 6 teams in NPL, split evenly into two groups of 3. Each team will play the other teams in the group once, then a semi-final series will see the winner of Group A take on the runner-up in Group B, and vice versa for a spot in the Cup final.

The Premier Youth Trophy will comprise the bottom 4 teams in NPL and the top 4 teams in Northern League One, split evenly into two groups of 4. Each team will play the other teams in the group once, then a semi-final series will see the winner of Group A take on the runner-up in Group B, and vice versa for a spot in the Trophy Final.

The Premier Youth Plate will comprise the bottom 6 teams in Northern League One, split evenly into two groups of 3. Each team will play the other teams in the group once, then a semi-final series will see the winner of Group A take on the runner-up in Group B, and vice versa for a spot in the Plate Final.

1The league positions for the above will be decided on Monday 31st May. In the incident that not all teams have played an equal number of games by this date, positions will be ranked on a points per game basis, then on a goal difference per game, then goals scored per game if required.

 2Final positions will take into account the removal of regionally-based teams from the standings.
