ARCHIE FINN (EDGEWORTH), PAT LANGLOIS (JETS) & DANIEL McBREEN (EDGEWORTH)
Tomorrow night, Wednesday 21 August, will see local National Premier Leagues Northern NSW (NPL NNSW) Edgeworth Eagles hosting fellow local side, Hyundai A-League outfit Newcastle Jets, at Jack McLaughlan Oval, 7:30pm in the FFA Cup Round of 32 in what is a first for the Northern NSW region.
Never before has a Member Federation club from the region met with the Jets in the FFA Cup with both looking to progress to the Quarter Finals stage of the competition for the first time in their clubs’ history.
The Eagles progressed after showcasing a clinical performance away from home against Darwin Olympic, winning a comfortable 3-0, while the Jets did it a little harder having to comeback from two goals down to win 3-2 in extra time over Melbourne Victory.
Local junior Pat Langlois was the star of the show that night after scoring his first professional goal to win the match, and it seems he’ll play a predominant role in the squad again following injuries to multiple Jets’ defender, while new international signing and former Premier League player Wes Hoolahan is also expected to feature.
Edgeworth have been in top form though and sit in second place of the NPL NNSW league with young players such as Aden Gardner and Adam Cawley both performing well scoring goals in their Round of 32 victory, and in their 4-1 win over Weston Bears last Saturday.
While there’s a vast array of talented youngsters at the Edgeworth club, two veteran heads, Josh Rose and Daniel McBreen, will arguably be the most important and influential players on the field given their experience and the fact they’ve faced the Newcastle Jets on numerous occasions before.
The two sides met in a Hyundai A-League pre-season friendly only a few weeks back which saw a lone Dimi Petratos goal the only separator.
Tickets can still be purchased for the match, but alternatively, the match can be watched as the ‘feature match’ of the night on Fox Sports.
