Emily van Egmond Farewell

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF), the Newcastle Jets Women and the Emerging Jets Girls farewelled Emily van Egmond at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Wednesday 13th May ahead of her departure to the final camp preparation for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada.

At the farewell event, NNSWF CEO, David Eland and Emerging Jets Academy Director, Gary van Egmond congratulated Emily on her achievements and wished her the best of luck during the World Cup and addressed Emerging Jets players and parents regarding the player development pathway in NNSWF and the importance of role models such as Emily, to learn from and aspire to take after.

As the only Northern NSW player selected in the 23-player Wold Cup squad, Emily was gracious during the event and advised the attending players to work hard toward their football goals and learn from the players and support staff around them.

The Matildas will compete against USA, Sweden and Nigeria in the group stages and will be looking to improve on their quarter final finish in the 2011 World Cup.

In honour of Emily’s football achievements, NNSWF announced the establishment of the “Emily van Egmond Rising Star Award” which will be awarded yearly to an Emerging Jets player participating in Football NSW competitions. The Emerging Jets 13 Years, 15 Years and 17 Years Girls will be eligible for to win the Emily van Egmond Rising Star Award.
