Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) will be hosting a Junior Matildas Elite Match at Speers Point next Wednesday 15 May at 7.30 pm.
There will be over twelve (12) local Newcastle players involved in the match alongside selected New South Wales players. These players are looking to prove themselves to be selected for future training camps, with September’s 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship in sight.
Football Federation Australia (FFA), Junior Matildas Head Coach, Rae Dower said every opportunity the players get to showcase their talents in front of the coaching staff is important.
“It’s also important for the players to know what the benchmark is for previously selected players and to work on aspects of their game they want to improve,” Dower said.
“For the players to play outside their comfort zone, alongside different players is also a great learning opportunity for them.
“The opportunity to bring these players together and see them play against one another in a high intensity, competitive football match is rare and so we welcome any opportunity we can to observe the players we’ve been following for the past 18 months to 2 years.
“It’s invaluable for us as the coaching staff to see the progress they’ve made since we last saw them and to see how they’ve taken on specific feedback provided.”
The match will take place after the Newcastle Permanent Masterclass which Dower is hosting.
