Northern NSW Football Announce Women’s State Cup

March 15th, 2017

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) will host an inaugural Women’s State Cup Competition in 2017 held over the weekend of the 16th and 17th September at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility in Speers Point.

Senior Women’s teams across Northern NSW will have the opportunity to play against senior teams from other Zones and from within the Herald Women’s Premier League competition for the first time in a sanctioned competition while also giving teams the opportunity to play at the state of the art facility.

This week’s continuing Female Football Week celebrations provides a great backdrop to announce the NNSWF Women’s State Cup.

The establishment of the Women’s State Cup was a strategic initiative for Northern NSW Football in the 2016-2019 Strategic Plan which outlines Northern NSW Football’s aim to be a leading organisation for females.

NNSWF is committed to improving the experience of all participants and is aiming to lift the number of female registered players to 25% by 2020. Events like this provide more opportunities for women to enjoy the sport and move towards ensuring that the opportunities for females reflect those that are currently available for males players.

The men’s State Cup which was introduced in 2012 enabled NNSWF to easily transition into the National Westfield FFA Cup competition in 2015 including PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues (NPL) teams as well as Hyundai A-League teams.

The Women’s State Cup could be a stepping stone for a National Women’s FFA Cup as States across Australia move to align their Premier Women’s Competition with the PS4 NPL format.

NNSWF has invited clubs to submit expressions of interests for the tournament to Nyssa Suchanow, Female Participation Officer NNSWF, nsuchanow@northernnswfootball.com.au
