Port Saints FC named Newcastle Permanent Club of the Month for October

October 1st, 2020

Northern NSW Football is pleased to announce Port Saints FC from Football Mid North Coast as Newcastle Permanent Club of the Month winner for October 2020.

Port Saints FC were named winners of the Newcastle Permanent Club of the Month award due to its significant contribution to the local community.

While football in 2020 has been vastly different to previous years, this has not deterred volunteers at Port Saints FC.

Early on during the suspension of football this year, the Port Saints FC committee took the time to reflect upon why they all do what they do, week in week out from season to season.

They reflected on the purpose of community football and decided that, regardless of the format football might have been run this year, they were committed to getting their players back onto the field. They decided they had enough love, passion and commitment to the game to do whatever was required.

This determination and commitment continue to shine. The committee worked tirelessly to communicate their passion and enthusiasm for the game with its members throughout the suspension. This clear and encouraging communication strategy provided club members with the confidence they needed to return to the field, proven by the considerably low drop-out rates of their players after the suspension was lifted.

The committee worked tirelessly to implement COVIDSafe practices that focus on the safety of its players as well as continue to encourage passion and love of the game. They have implemented several new initiatives this season to encourage positivity with their members including:

  • Superstar of the Week – photos of all their MiniRoos play of the week recipients posts on social media
  • Port Saints Pooches – members pets usually in footy gear being posted to social media
  • Good news stories from their teams that display sportsmanship and participation
  • Good news stories from their local sponsors about charity work they have participated in

The club hopes to continue its good work in the coming weeks with the announcement of a spring/summer coaching clinic, a digital end of season presentation and end of season gifts in lieu of a presentation night.

“Port Saints FC has made a significant and valuable contribution to the local community,” NNSWF Senior Officer Community Football Ross Hicks said.

“We applaud the efforts of Port Saints FC’s committee, coaches and players which demonstrate that community is integral to the club’s ethos.”

Newcastle Permanent Port Macquarie Senior Branch Manager Adam Power echoed Hicks’ sentiments and was pleased a Football Mid North Coast club had been rewarded for its efforts.

“Newcastle Permanent’s Community Football Awards recognise the important role clubs play in our local communities and it is great to see clubs embracing a culture of inclusiveness, discipline and respect, both on and off the field,” Power said.

Port Saints FC will receive a $250 First Touch Football Supplies gift voucher thanks to Newcastle Permanent that will allow the club to purchase new equipment to continue its efforts in growing the game in the region.

The Newcastle Permanent Club of the Month Award recognises clubs for their contribution to football on and off the playing field across areas including football experience, club activities, coach and volunteer management and special projects.
