Seven local squads participate in Annual McDonalds Kanga Cup

This week seven (7) teams across Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) are participating in the Annual McDonalds Kanga Cup in Canberra.

The McDonalds Kanga Cup is the largest International Youth Football Tournament in the Southern Hemisphere.

Held annually each July in Canberra, Australia, the week-long event proudly champions the mission of Uniting the Youth of the World through Football. The Kanga Cup is run by Capital Football, the governing body for football in Canberra.

The tournament provides players with the opportunity to play football over the school holiday period where normally they would have this particular week off, of football training and games. It is also beneficial for the teams to gauge how their football development is progressing.

The teams within NNSWF participating include:

Swansea FC Macquarie Football U16 Girls

The tournament also provides the players with the experience of playing different opposition’s from all over the country with a minimum of 7 games to play in a 5-day period.

Previous participating teams of the McDonald’s Kanga Cup have hailed from Australia, United States of America, England, Denmark, Italy, Russia, Georgia, South Africa, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Indonesia, East Timor, Fiji, New Zealand and others.

As Australia’s premier football festival the McDonald’s Kanga Cup holds a special place within the football family and is an annual calendar highlight for youth footballers of Australia and the world.
