Simon Says… Round 2

October 28th, 2015

Simon Says…

In the first of our brief chat’s with Jets captain Gema Simon, Gema gives us her thoughts on the sides first match of the season against Perth Glory…

The Result…

‘I was really happy with the way the team was composed even with Tara and Georgia away in China. I was really proud with how the girls played and gelled as a team and from the outset the intensity was there and we really got stuck into it.’

‘I think we created more opportunities than Perth and the message there for us as a team at training is to work on our finishing to ensure we capitalise on the opportunities provided to us, as well as importantly create opportunities ourselves.’

‘The girls are still in high spirits and have gained a lot of confidence from the result of the first game of the season.’

The Travel…

‘The travel wasn’t an issue for us. I think now that all the girls know what to expect and as a result ensure that they stay hydrated and prepare themselves for the trip. When we arrived on Friday, Craig ensured that we had a light run to get the flight out of our legs and that really helped put the girls in the right frame of mind for the match the following day.’

Training This Week…

‘The really positive thing to bring back from Perth was that the girls really wanted to win. They are so enthusiastic and eager to perform well. I’m sure Craig will have some things he wants to focus on this week in training but from my perspective, I was just really happy with the girl’s first game and I know we can only continue to improve as a squad from here.’

Looking To Round 3…

‘We are on the road again this weekend in Melbourne taking on Victory and the girls are all excited as the Perth match gave them a lot of confidence. With Tara and Georgia back, it just adds to the side’s enthusiasm to go to Melbourne and aim to improve on our Perth result.’

Coming Home…

‘We can’t wait for our first home game against Western Sydney. I know we are looking to attract a record crowd and that will certainly be boosted by having the Red and Black Bloc at Magic to support the Wanderers. But I know our supporters have been waiting for us to play at home and by Round 4 I’m sure they will be in strong voice and turning up on mass to show their support. It will be such a great atmosphere and I know personally it’s something I’ve been looking forward to, playing at home in front of friends and family once again.’
