Slow the game down – Northern NSW Football launch Walking Football pilot program

April 14th, 2021

Men and women aged 50 years and over are invited to take part in Northern NSW Football’s exciting Walking Football pilot program.

The pilot program will be launched with a FREE Come and Try event as part of the NSW Seniors Festival at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility from 10am on Tuesday, 20 April.

NNSWF will then kick off its Monday Social League at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on 3 May which will run for eight weeks. Each session will start at 6pm and finish by 7pm.

A Tuesday Social League will start on 4 May, which will also run for eight weeks, starting at 10am and finishing at 11am. The weekday morning session is specifically aimed at retirees looking for an opportunity for social interaction and to remain active.

Walking football is a low-impact, team-based exercise utilising the defined Walking Football Rules and Formats.

It is a non-contact form of the game with players always having one foot on the ground.

Matches are played with modified 5v5 or 6v6 formats on smaller pitches with shortened game time. Players register individually with teams formed on the day or night.

Walking Football aims to provide participants physical and mental health benefits, social connectedness and promotion of the benefits of ongoing physical activity.

“We’re super excited to get this pilot program up and running. Or up and walking in this case,” NNSWF Kick-On for Women Project Officer Michelle Forbes said.

“We’re keen for as many people as possible to come along and enjoy a different version of the game.”

The cost of the pilot program is $80 per person for the eight-week league.

Players can register online for the Walking Football Social Leagues online HERE.

If interested players have any questions, contact Michelle Forbes or 4941 7200 or via email at mforbes@northernnswfootball.com.au
