Eleven Northern NSW Players Receive International Call

Eleven Northern NSW Players have been selected in the Young and Junior Matildas squads, which is the highest selection of Northern NSW players to date.

Seven Northern NSW players have been selected for the Young Matildas (U 20 Squad) who will compete in the AFF Women’s Championship in Myanmar. While four Northern NSW players including Annalee Grove (who is also selected in the Young Matildas squad) have been invited to attend the Junior Matildas (U 17 Squad) camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The call-ups come from the recent win in the National Training Centre (NTC) Challenge that was held in June as well as coming third in both the 13 and 15 Years Divisions in the Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls in Coffs Harbour, that was held at the start of the month.

Out of the seven selected in the Young Matildas, five players are out of the Westfield W-League Newcastle Jets squad as well as two coming from the Emerging Jets program.

– Ashlee Brodigan (Newcastle Jets W-League)
– Annalee Grove (Emerging Jets)
– Brooke Miller (Newcastle Jets W-League)
– Sophie Nenadovic (Newcastle Jets W-League)
– Hannah Southwell (Newcastle Jets W-League)
– Clare Wheeler (Newcastle Jets W-League)

Northern NSW players that were invited to attend the first Junior Matildas Camp that finishes up today included Lucy Kell (Emerging Jets), Molly Arens (Emerging Jets), Tessa Tamplin (Emerging Jets), and Annalee Grove (Emerging Jets).

The second camp is held on from Sunday 24th July to Thursday 28th July 2016. The squad was announced last night (Tuesday 19th July), with Susanna Behne-Smith (Emerging Jets) to attend along with Lucy Kell (Emerging Jets), Molly Arens (Emerging Jets) and Tessa Tamplin (Emerging Jets). The camp is part of the selection process for the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers which will be held in Vietnam on the 25th August to 3rd September 2016. Successful players will be notified of their selection after the completion of the second camp.
