Watch Edgeworth vs South Melbourne FC in the FFA Cup Round of 32 this Wednesday night

July 24th, 2017

Edgeworth Eagles face one of the oldest and most successful Australian clubs South Melbourne FC in the FFA Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday night, which will be broadcast live on Fox Sports as the pick of the opening night fixtures.

Broadmeadow Magic will meet Moreton Bay United the following week, with their Wednesday 2nd August fixture to be live streamed.

Edgeworth FC are no strangers to tough draws in the Round of 32, though Eagles coach Damian Zane is confident his side can build on their cup success of the past two years – a progression to the Round of 32 in 2015, and the Round of 16 in 2016.

In 2015, they bowed out against Melbourne City in the Round of 32, where it took a double from Aaron Mooy to beat Edgeworth 2-1 in a closely-fought encounter.

Last year they went one better, beating Far North Queensland 3-0 in the Round of 32 before losing to Western Sydney Wanderers.

And in 2017, Zane believes Edgeworth now has the experience to go one better.

“We want to repeat it [last year’s progression] and we want a taste of success again in 2017. The boys are looking forward to it, it’s going to be a challenge against the biggest club outside of the A-League [South Melbourne FC], but we’re looking forward to the trip and it should be a good game, we should do ourselves proud.”

South Melbourne boast several ex-A-league players including Melbourne City duo Stefan Zinni and Matt Millar, along with star striker Milos Lujic who has 55 goals in 67 league appearances.

As one of the most successful Australian clubs outside of the A-League, and with aspirations for professional status, anything but a win at home to the Eagles could be seen as a failure.
