National Premier Leagues

The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a national second-tier competition that supports A-Leagues competitions. Many former  A-Leagues, Socceroos and Matildas players have been involved in this level of competition.

It is the best football competition run at a member federation level and comes under a single national banner.

The NPL was established in 2013 after Football Australia's national competition review. Its purpose was to rebrand and revitalise state and member federation-based competitions in Australia and improve opportunities for elite player development.

Northern NSW Football has NPL Men's and NPL Women's competitions. The NPL Men's NNSW competition was formed for the 2014 season, while the NPL Women's NNSW competition started in 2022.

Teams that take part in the NPL need to meet national criteria that help incentivise and support player development through to national pathway programs..
