Northern NSW Football secured fourth place at the 2024 National Para Football Championships.
The four-day tournament at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra saw the inaugural NNSWF team put their mark on the competition as they battled hard in each game.
NNSWF had a tough start to the competition with three hard-fought losses in the first two days.
But they bounced back with two wins on day three against Football Queensland and Football South Australia to secure fourth place and advance through to the bronze medal match.
Unfortunately, NNSWF went down to Football Victoria in the bronze medal play-off but finished the tournament fourth overall.
Goalkeeper Katelyn Smith, who represented NNSWF was awarded Female Player of the Tournament.
NNSWF Female Participation and Inclusion Officer Nat Boyd was delighted with the success of NNSWF’s first National Para tournament.
“Congratulations to all NNSWF players and coaches for showcasing their talents on the national stage. They did themselves, the region and everyone involved in Northern NSW Football proud,” Boyd said.
“It was fantastic for NNSWF to be a part of the National Para Football Championships for the first time and we look forward to being a part of successful tournaments in the future.”
“A special thanks to coaches Mackenzie Davis and Matt Bass for their exceptional leadership throughout the tournament.”
NNSWF player and Pararoo Luc Launder was thrilled to be a part of the historic occasion.
“It’s been really good. We’ve had some tough games and we have a very young team which has made me very proud in the first few games,” Launder said.
“It’s been a special experience for sure.
“We have a few incredibly good young players who I’m sure will be a part of this program for a long time. I can’t wait to see them flourish and show what they can do in the future.”
