Football Australia’s 2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships has entered the pointy end following a thrilling day of action.
Northern NSW Football continued to fight to secure a spot at the top of their table.
The under-12s boys Red opened the day with a bang when they locked in their first win of the tournament, as they defeated Football Victoria White 5-4. The boys returned later in the day determined to continue their winning ways but went down 10-1 against a tough Football South Australia side.
NNSWF’s under-14s boys faced a challenging Football Queensland Maroon team and were defeated 8-0.
At the same time the under-12s boys Black continued to search for their first win of the championships and looked hopeful against Football Tasmania but went down 4-3 in a nail biting match.
The under-16s boys were able to build on the momentum gained from their first win on day two, as they secured a 4-3 victory over Football Queensland Silver. They will now face Football West in the quarter-final on Friday.
NNSWF’s two under-15s girls sides took to the court at the same time. The under-15s girls Red continued their momentum at the top of the table with a 4–1 victory over Football NSW Country.
Meanwhile, the under-15s girls Black faced a demanding Football NSW Thunder side and were downed 9–1.
Both under-15s girls sides will move to the quarter-finals on Friday, as under-15s girls Red take on Football Victoria White and under-15s girls Black will go head-to-head with Football Queensland Maroon.
The under-13s girls picked up their second lot of points on day three, as they locked in a 1-1 draw with Football NSW Lightning. Before they returned Thursday night to down Football Victoria 3-2.
They will face Football Queensland Silver on Friday in the quarter-final.
NNSWF’s under-15s boys have continued to improve throughout their campaign but were handed a difficult 2-1 loss against Football West. The under-15s boys will take on Football Queensland in the quarter-final.
The under-13s boys contested against a determined Football Tasmania side, with both teams hunting for their first point of the tournament. Ultimately, it was Football Tasmania who secured a 3–2 victory.
NNSWF’s under-13s boys will head to the quarter-final on Friday and will face Capital Football.
While six NNSWF teams head to the quarter-finals on Friday, the under-12s boys Black, under-12s boys Red, and under-14s boys will each play one final pool game.
NNSWF Futsal Manager Damon Shaw said the progression shown across the day was pleasing as the tournament continued.
“We had our best day today with five wins from 13 matches and it’s fantastic to see our teams improve as the competition goes on,” Shaw said.
“Our under-16s boys and under-15s girls have both secured second in their group, which is an improvement on last year already.
“The sides will now go into the quarter-finals with confidence and support from all NNSWF players and spectators.”
