The scholarships are designed to reduce barriers by supporting and increasing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, coaches and referees from across northern NSW to develop in their respective pathways.
Eleven scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous players, referees and coaches.
- Five scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous male and female players between the ages of 13 to 16.
- Four scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous male and female referees between the ages of 14 to 19.
- Two scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous male and female coaches aged 16 and over.
Applications open Tuesday 2 December.
NNSWF Participation Officer – Schools and First Nations Michael Hugo said the Indigenous Scholarships aim to support Indigenous players, coaches and referees as they advance in their football journey.
“Each scholarship recipient will serve as a role model for future generations of Indigenous players, coaches and referees, inspiring others within their communities,” Hugo said.
“NNSWF want to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, coaches and referees across football while expanding opportunities for professional development.
“This initiative allows us to recognise and showcase emerging talent who have the potential to excel at the highest levels of the game.”
