Football is more than what happens on the pitch and Cundletown Jets showed that during its 'Kickin' It for Jen' round.
The club supported long-time member Jen, one of the founding players of its women’s team, as she prepares for major spinal surgery after doctors found a growth wrapped around her spine.
“Jen was one of the originals. We’re just trying to get behind her as a club,” Cundletown club secretary Amy Love said.
“Jen has served Cundletown Jets for more than a decade. She has played, coached, sat on the committee and helped grow the women’s program.
“She was a coach and she’s on the committee. Our ladies team drive a lot of the club stuff.”
The club dedicated round nine to Jen. It donated $25 for every goal scored by its competitive teams, while Coles MiniRoos players joined in with goal celebrations to involve all age groups.
The six competitive teams from the Cundletown Jets scored 11 goals across the round.
The main impact came off the field, where the football community showed strong support. Sami Dunk, Rosie Overliet, Kayla Simpson, Jess Yarnold, Bree Holdsworth and Bee Dargan all contributed donations that boosted the goal campaign total.
The initiative raised $750, with the club continuing its fundraising efforts through the Kickin' It for Jen raffle, which closes on 6 July. Those wishing to support Jen can purchase raffle tickets here: https://rafflelink.com.au/kickforjen.
The day showed the strength of community football with players, families and supporters rallying around one of their own.
Northern NSW Football General Manager Member Services Ross Hicks and Football Mid North Coast General Manager Phillip Andrews congratulated Cundletown Jets, and everyone involved in 'Kickin' It for Jen' Round for a strong display of support and community spirit.
