New NPL Women’s NNSW club Lake Macquarie City FC will face reigning premiers Maitland FC at Cooks Square Park in the opening round of the 2025 competition.
Northern NSW Football announced the draw for its 2025 premier competitions on Wednesday, including its top tier women’s competition.
Next year will be the fourth NPL Women’s NNSW season with Lake Macquarie City FC to enter the NPLW competition in 2025, replacing Warners Bay FC after the transfer of its NPLW and Premier Youth League licence.
Lakes will start their NPL Women’s NNSW campaign away from home against the Magpies on Sunday 16 February.
Elsewhere in round one, Broadmeadow Magic will host Newcastle Olympic at Magic Park on Friday 14 February. Reigning champions Charlestown Azzurri will face New Lambton FC at Alder Park on Saturday 15 February, while Adamstown Rosebud JFC will have the bye.
The competition will feature seven teams after it was announced that Mid Coast FC would not enter teams in the NPLW NNSW first grade and reserve grade competitions from 2025 to focus on their youth programs.
The finals series structure of the NPL Women’s NNSW competition will remain unchanged.
The 2025 HMRI Charity Shield will take place at Jack McLaughlan Oval on Friday 7 February. The one-off match will see the reigning champions Charlestown Azzurri up against the Women’s State Cup winners Newcastle Olympic with all proceeds going to the Hunter Medical Research Institute.
The match will be played as a double header alongside the men’s HMRI Charity Shield between the NPL Men’s NNSW premiers and champions Broadmeadow Magic and the Men’s State Cup winners Lambton Jaffas.
NNSWF General Manager Football Operations Liam Bentley said he looked forward to an exciting 2025 NPL Women’s NNSW season.
“The 2024 season was one of the most entertaining NPL Women’s NNSW seasons we’ve had, with the race for the premiership and the crowning of champions coming down to the final whistle, so I am really looking forward to another fantastic year of competition,” Bentley said.
“Last season’s competition was another great success. But there have been significant personnel changes across a number of clubs as well as Lake Macquarie City FC coming into the competition so it really could be anyone’s to win.
“We have made a concerted effort to spread the matches for each league throughout the weekend this season, with more Friday night football and multiple time slots on Saturdays and Sundays to make it easier for everyone to get to or watch more games than ever before.
“We wish everyone all the best for the 2025 season.”
There will also be special commemorative rounds for Mental Health Week from 17 to 23 March, Female Football Week from 2 to 11 May, Heartbeat of Football Round from 10 May to 1 June, Pride Round from 20 to 22 June and Indigenous Round from 18 to 20 July.
NPL Women’s NNSW match days will feature first and reserve grade matches as well as the youth component of NPL Women’s NNSW – the Premier Youth League Girls competition - for under 13s, 15s and 17s.
