Northern NSW Football have decided to cancel the JDL Galas and postpone its PYL Boys Pre-Season Cup and Plate finals this weekend due to the predicted hot weather.
Weather forecasts predict temperatures about 30 degrees with high humidity on Saturday and Sunday, with the potential to hit a wet bulb reading of 28 by 10am.
JDL Round 2 (A and B) Galas
NNSWF has cancelled the JDL Galas for Saturday and Sunday this week. With the expected high temperatures early in the day, coupled with the humidity and the physical environment of the Football Fives pitches, it is highly likely most matches would not have been able to proceed under NNSWF’s Hot Weather Policy.
The JDL Fives Gala will not be rescheduled, with clubs to move into their regular season home and away fixtures from next weekend.
PYL Boys Pre-Season Cup & Plate Finals
NNSWF has postponed the PYL Boys Pre-Season Cup and Plate finals on Sunday. Given the forecast conditions it is highly unlikely many games would be played before temperatures breached the Hot Weather Policy. This also takes into consideration the number of clubs involved, the effects on host clubs and the need for early clarification for players, parents, clubs and volunteers.
The PYL Boys Pre-Season Cup and Plate finals will now be played as follows:

This will impact the training bookings for a number of clubs at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility. These clubs will be provided a credit for use at another time which they can coordinate with the LMRFF Venue Manager.
All other scheduled football
Northern NSW Football have not enforced a blanket cancellation of fixtures this weekend but would encourage all clubs to liaise with their opposition if they have matches scheduled during the day on Saturday or Sunday to discuss moving matches earlier in the morning or to evening kick offs at a time which is suitable to all involved.
This includes all premier competitions matches including senior matches and PYL Girls matches, as well as Australia Cup fixtures.
NNSWF General Manager Football Operations Liam Bentley said the decisions had been made in the interests of player safety, while still giving clubs the chance to get matches played where it is safe to do so.
“With the predicted weather it was important to make an early decision with the information we had at hand. This will hopefully provide clarity to everyone,” Bentley said.
“Player safety is of utmost importance to us and we think these decisions reach the right balance between ensuring our players are safe and allowing the clubs the flexibility to safely get matches played.”
