HIT106.9 Northern League One Catch-Up Round Preview: Bluebells look to go back-to-back, while Roosters aim to swoop league leaders

Dudley Redhead United v West Wallsend SFC
Lydon Oval, Thursday 8pm
Round Nine Rescheduled Fixture

A side looking to return to the winner’s circle and a side searching for just their third win will go head-to-head when Dudley Redhead United host West Wallsend SFC at Lydon Oval on Thursday night in the round nine rescheduled fixture.

Dudley Redhead United were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Singleton Strikers in round 11 unable to bounce back from a 3-0 loss against Toronto Awaba FC in round 10.

Despite the two back-to-back losses, the Thistles will have confidence in their front third after netting two goals in the second stanza against the Strikers recovering from a 3-0 deficit at half-time.

Dudley and West Wallsend sit fifth and sixth on the table on equal 10 points.

While the Thistles have conceded three fewer goals than West Wallsend, the Bluebells have found the back of the net double the amount of times Dudley have.

The Thistles will need to remain calm amongst a dominant Bluebells backline and create clinical finishes to return to winning ways.

West Wallsend won their first game since round one in their round 11 clash against South Cardiff FC.

The Bluebells netted four goals in the first 18 minutes of the match and for the first time this season kept a clean sheet.

The win boosted West Wallsend to fifth on the table and away from the cluster of teams at the bottom of the table.

They will look to repeat their dominant full field display on Thursday night and lock in their third win of the season.

South Cardiff FC v Singleton Strikers
Ulinga Oval, Friday 8pm
Round Nine Rescheduled Fixture

Singleton Strikers will look for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they travel to Ulinga Oval to take on South Cardiff FC under Friday night lights in the round nine rescheduled fixture.

Singleton will be on a high after they defeated Dudley Redhead United 3-2 in round 11.

The Strikers netted all three goals in the first 25 minutes of the match and held on to the end to prevent Dudley from coming back and snatching two points away from them.

They sit fourth on the table one point away from Lake Macquarie City in third. A win for the Strikers will be more than their first back-to-back victory this year; it will also help maintain their position on the tale and keep them clear from West Wallsend SFC four points behind them in fifth.

Singleton will have to remain focused for the entire 90 minutes to put a stop to South Cardiff’s never say die attitude.

South Cardiff entered the round nine rescheduled match with a 4-0 loss at the hands of West Wallsend in the back of their minds.

The loss was on the back of the biggest deficit of the season when they were downed 6-0 by Toronto Awaba in round eight.

The Gunners have conceded 10 goals and netted zero in their past two matches.

They will need to maintain pressure on the ball and tighten their backline to shut down a persevering Singleton front third to walk away with points for the first time since the beginning of May.

Toronto Awaba FC v Lake Macquarie City FC
Lyall Peacock Oval, Friday 8pm
Round Nine Rescheduled Fixture

Two sides looking to return to the field will go head-to-head when Toronto Awaba FC host Lake Macquarie City FC at Lyall Peacock Oval on Friday night in the round nine rescheduled match.

Neither team was able to take the field in round 11 due to wet weather but both teams will be looking to extend their unbeaten streaks.

Lake Macquarie have been victorious in their last three matches, launching them to third on the table and nine points away from their opponents on Friday night.

The Roosters will need to strengthen their defence when they come up against a dominant front third after conceding 18 goals this season, the third most of any side.

Toronto have not dropped points since round five and have won their past four matches, including a dominant 6-0 victory over South Cardiff.

The Stags have the strongest backline on paper conceding just seven goals this season and have secured six clean sheets.

They will look to continue their dominant defence as well as resume their attacking threat in order to maintain their reign on top.
