HIT106.9 Northern League One Catch-Up Round Review: Stags continue reign, while Strikers take down Gunners

South Cardiff 0-5 Singleton Strikers

Round Nine Rescheduled Fixture

Singleton Strikers secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they downed South Cardiff FC 5-0 at Ulinga Oval in the round nine rescheduled fixture.

It took Singleton just 16 minutes to open the scoring on Friday night when Nick Claut netted his second goal of the season.

The striker's equal-leading goal scorer, Joel Barner, scored his first of the evening just four minutes later in the 20th minute and doubled his side’s lead where the score would remain at half-time.

South Cardiff was unable to find the back of the net in the second half and fight their way back to winning ways.

Instead, back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 54th minute from Lachlan Nicol and Barner further extended the Strikers lead.

The Gunners had no answers to put a stop to Singleton’s dominant front third before Ryan Claut put the nail in the coffin when he netted the fifth and final goal of the evening in the 67th minute.

It was Singleton’s second clean sheet and first back-to-back wins of the season.

They moved to third on the table and three points behind Kahibah FC in second. However, Kahibah have an extra game in hand.

The Strikers will look to keep the good times rolling when they host league leaders Toronto Awaba FC on Saturday afternoon.

South Cardiff have now conceded 15 goals in their past three matches and have scored zero.

They remained in seventh on the table and will look to complete a full 180 when they host Lake Macquarie City on Wednesday night in the rescheduled round 10 match.

Toronto Awaba FC 4-0 Lake Macquarie City

Round Nine Rescheduled Fixture

Toronto Awaba FC continued their dominant season when they downed Lake Macquarie City 4-0 under Friday night lights in the rescheduled round nine fixture.

Toronto’s Nick Roberts became the leading goal scorer and opened the scoring for the evening when he found the back of the net for the eighth time this season in the 20th minute of the match.

Despite persistent efforts from both sides, neither team was able to find the back of the net before half-time and sent Toronto into the sheds leading 1-0.

Stags Jacob Dundas doubled his side’s lead in the 60th minute, three minutes after he was subbed on when he scored his first goal of the season for his new side.

The Roosters appeared to have shut down a persistent Stags front third but a double in the 83rd minute and injury time from Damon Green locked in Toronto’s 4-0 victory.

Toronto extended their lead at the top of the table and are seven points clear of second-place Kahibah FC who have an extra game in hand.

They will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Howe Park on Saturday afternoon to go head-to-head with Singleton Strikers.

Lakes will be eager to return to winning ways after Toronto put a stop to their three-game unbeaten streak.

They will face South Cardiff FC on Wednesday night in the rescheduled round 10 fixture.
