Match of the Round
Thornton Redbacks v Singleton Strikers
Thornton Park, Sunday 2pm
Thornton and Singleton will look to keep in touch with the top four when they meet at Thornton Park on Sunday.
The Strikers are level on points with fourth-placed West Wallsend, only trailing by goal difference, with Thornton a further point back.
The teams that finish the regular season second, third and fourth on the table will enter the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Finals Series along with the 11th-placed team from NPL Men’s NNSW to fight for a place in the top flight for 2026.
Thornton missed their chance to climb into the top four on Tuesday night, going down 4-1 to West Wallsend in their rescheduled round 10 match.
Josh Carroll gave Westy an early lead, converting a penalty after eight minutes.
Spencer Clarke made it 2-0 just before the hour mark only for Logan Watson to halve the deficit for Thornton moments later after coming on as a substitute.
But the comeback was to be short lived as Samuel Marr reestablished Westy’s two-goal advantage two minutes later, with Jake Bower sealing the result for the Bluebells seven minutes from full-time.
Singleton will be fresh from a weekend off, having last been in action in their 3-3 draw with the Bluebells in round 14.
The Strikers will hope to replicate their round six victory over Thornton when Singleton ran out 3-2 winners thanks to goals from Jackson Cox, Lachlan Nicol and Nicholas Claut.
West Wallsend SFC v Toronto Awaba FC
Johnston Park, Saturday 2pm
West Wallsend will try to build on their momentum when they host a stumbling Toronto Awaba at Johnston Park on Saturday.
The Bluebells climbed into the top four on Tuesday night with their 4-1 victory over Thornton in their rescheduled round 10 clash.
Westy are now fourth, one point behind third-placed Dudley Redhead United.
Toronto Awaba will be fresh from a week off and desperate to get their season back on track after dropping points in consecutive matches to slip from the top of the table.
The Stags are now second, four points behind Kahibah, though have a match in hand.
Toronto Awaba have drawn blanks in their last two matches after being held to a goalless draw against Thornton.
The Stags then went down 1-0 to Kahibah which saw them replaced at the summit. They will need a swift reversal in form if they are to keep in touch with Kahibah at the top of the table and keep their dreams of automatic promotion alive.
Toronto Awaba downed West Wallsend 2-1 thanks to goals from Luke Callen and Nicholas Roberts when the sides met in round six.
South Cardiff FC v Kahibah FC
Ulinga Oval, Saturday 7.30pm
Kahibah will attempt to maintain their lead at the top of the table when they travel to Ulinga Oval to face South Cardiff on Saturday night.
Kahibah are in the box seat to secure automatic promotion to NPL Men’s NNSW for 2026 as they sit four points clear at the top of the table with four rounds to play.
Kahibah have won its last seven matches in a row, last dropping points when Singleton held them to a 1-1 draw in round eight.
They will be confident heading into Saturday night’s clash having beaten South Cardiff 2-0 in their rescheduled round six clash on Sunday.
Jackson Burston gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes before half-time at Kahibah Oval before Jonathon Middleby’s goal in added time sealed the result late on.
The defeat saw South Cardiff slump to last place, with the prospect of relegation to Zone League One now a real possibility.
Though the Gunners will know that a run of results could easily propel them up the table to safety, with South Cardiff only trailing Cessnock City on goal difference and Wallsend just a point clear.
Dudley Redhead United v Cessnock City Hornets
Lydon Oval, Sunday 2pm
Dudley Redhead United will look to continue its fairytale season when they host Cessnock City on Sunday.
Dudley Redhead welcome the Hornets to Lydon Oval having climbed to third with a 2-1 victory over Wallsend in their rescheduled round eight match on Sunday.
Samuel Dunkley gave Dudley Redhead the lead on 14 minutes before Wallsend equalised through Matthew Williams three minutes before half-time.
Patrick Tappouras then popped up to score the winner for Dudley Redhead 10 minutes from full-time to strengthen their place in the top four.
Dudley Redhead were promoted to HIT106.9 Northern League One from Zone League One last season and have handled the step up admirably.
They are on course to reach the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Finals Series which would put them within touching distance of back-to-back promotions.
Cessnock have their own problems at the other end of the table, only safe from relegation on goal difference.
Though the Hornets will be thankful for a much-needed point against Lake Macquarie City in their rescheduled round 11 match on Friday night.
Dudley Redhead downed Cessnock 2-0 when they met in round six thanks to goals from Kyle D’Agostino and Dane Falcioni.
Wallsend FC v Lake Macquarie City FC
Ladbroke Gardens, Sunday 4.30pm
Wallsend and Lake Macquarie City will know a win is vital towards their ambitions for the rest of the season when they meet at Ladbroke Gardens on Sunday.
Wallsend and Lakes occupy eighth and seventh places on the table with 14 and 16 points respectively, though the Red Devils also have a match in hand.
A win for either would see them keep in touch with the top four and a potential place in the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Finals Series.
Though a defeat could see them dragged into a relegation scrap should other results also go against them.
Cessnock City and bottom-placed South Cardiff are on 13 points and desperate to escape the foot of the table. Which leaves Wallsend and Lake Macquarie’s seasons on a knife edge heading into round 15.
Lakes thrashed Wallsend 6-1 when they met in round six but have had a disappointing season following relegation from NPL Men’s NNSW last season, with an immediate return to the top flight looking unlikely.
Both sides were in action as they played rescheduled fixtures last weekend. Lake Macquarie were held to a 2-2 draw by Cessnock City, while Wallsend went down 2-1 to Dudley Redhead United.
Wallsend’s form has been steady in recent weeks with two wins, two losses and a draw in its last five matches.
But Lakes are in a nosedive with their draw against the Hornets on Friday night finally halting to a five-game losing streak.
