Northern NSW Football hosted the Hunter region qualifiers for the NNSWF School Futsal Championships at NuSport, University of Newcastle, last month.
The tournament saw 10 school teams from across the region qualify for the NNSWF School Futsal Championships, which will take place in Port Macquarie from August 25 to September 3.
The winners and runners-up from the NNSWF School Titles and Eastcoast Futsal Academy Titles events in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour automatically qualify for the championships, alongside other nominated schools from across the region.
Eight schools in each of the boys and girls age groups which includes under-13s, under-14s, under-15s, under-16s and opens from across northern NSW will compete for state titles and a place at the National School Futsal Championships, which Football Queensland will host in November.
The NNSWF School Futsal Championships will also serve as an identification event for the Football Australia National Futsal Championships.
Selectors will invite identified players to trial for the NNSWF national futsal teams.
NNSWF Futsal Development Manager Damon Shaw praised the standard of competition throughout the Hunter region qualifiers.
“Congratulations to all the schools who have qualified through the Hunter region,” Shaw said.
“The standard of futsal throughout the qualifiers was excellent and we’re looking forward to seeing these teams compete against the best from across northern NSW in Port Macquarie.
“The NNSWF School Futsal Championships provide a fantastic opportunity for students to represent their schools, challenge themselves against quality opposition and potentially even further representative opportunities.”
