Hundreds of junior footballers took to the field as Kahibah FC hosted its 2026 Gala Day last weekend, bringing clubs from across the region together for a day of football, fun and community spirit.
The event welcomed 70 teams from more than 30 clubs, with around 500 players from under-6s through to under-9s taking part in a full day of football. Players competed across five games before coming together for their team presentations.
For Kahibah FC, the gala day marked a significant milestone as the club hosted its first event of its kind since 2019.
“As a club, we were thrilled to be able to host a gala day again, our first gala day since 2019,” Kahibah FC President Bridene Doherty said.
“The new redeveloped Harold Knight Sports Complex is the perfect location for a gala day, with plenty of field and amenities space.”
The newly redeveloped facility provided the perfect backdrop for a celebration of community football with players, families and volunteers creating a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
Behind the scenes, Kahibah FC’s committee and volunteers dedicated countless hours to planning and delivering the event, from coordinating fixtures to preparing facilities and ensuring the day ran smoothly.
“Hosting a gala day is certainly a lot of work for our committee but seeing how much fun the players have makes it all worthwhile,” Doherty said.
Parents and supporters also played an important role, cheering on young players and helping create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone involved.
The gala day showcased the strength of grassroots football, with clubs from across the region coming together to celebrate the game, build connections and create memorable experiences for the next generation of players.
