Northern NSW Football is delighted to announce its squads for the under-12s Copa Toreros Prima Vera Tournament.
The tournament will be played Saturday 28 to Monday 30 March at Tokino Sumika Usagijima Ground in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, near the base of Mount Fuji.
The event will feature 30 teams competing in an eight-a-side format, with group stages followed by finals.
NNSWF will send three teams to the tournament including metro under-12s boys, regional under-12s boys and under-13s girls made up of metro and regional players.
The regional boys squad marks a milestone for NNSWF as it becomes the first dedicated regional side to participate in an international tournament.
NNSWF’s under-13s girls team will compete in the under-12s boys division as part of a high-performance development challenge.
The tournament will feature top Japanese youth academies such as Yokohama F. Marinos, Yokohoma FC, Urawa Red Diamonds, Kashima Antlers, Kashiwa Reysol and RB Omiya Ardija.
International participants include SE Palmeiras from Brazil, the under-12s Nepal National Select, Hsinchu Cosmos United from Taiwan and Total Communication Football from China.
NNSWF Regional Talent Development Officer Larry Budgen was pleased to make the announcement.
“It is fantastic that NNSWF is taking part in the prestigious Copa Toreros Prima Vera Tournament,” Budgen said.
“Taking three teams to the tournament, including one completely made up of regional players, is a fantastic achievement. The talent within northern NSW is outstanding and I’m eager to see our sides compete on the international stage.
