Northern NSW Football will hold its Indigenous Round this weekend, from 5 to 7 July, to celebrate and recognise the contributions of First Nations members across our football community.
With a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion, Indigenous Round provides an opportunity to recognise the culture, history and achievements of First Nations participants.
Indigenous Round coincides with the national NAIDOC Week and a host of NNSWF initiatives including NAIDOC Cup. The competition will return for a third consecutive year and will be held at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility from 10 to 12 July.
NNSWF General Manager Member Services Ross Hicks said he looked forward to another successful Indigenous Round this weekend.
“Indigenous Round is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate diversity within out football community,” Hicks said.
“Special rounds such as this allow clubs to engage with their community on important issues.”
NPL Men’s NNSW Lambton Jaffas defender Sam Webb helped to design his club’s 2024 Indigenous kit.
“NNSWF Indigenous Round is so special for us to get recognised as footballers and give us the opportunity to make these connections,” Webb said.
“For me personally, it lets me be myself which is something I never embraced as a young kid but now I have that cultural connection, it definitely helps. Having that recognition and wearing the kits this weekend is just going to give me a real sense of pride.”
