NNSWF players encouraged to embrace opportunities at 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships

Northern NSW Football Technical Director Ryan Doidge is positive NNSWF players will continue their success at the Emerging Matildas Championships and use it as a pivotal step in their development.

Players from across the country are preparing to travel to Sydney where the 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships will kick off on Tuesday.

Doidge will be in attendance at the tournament, overseeing some of the region’s most talented players. His role throughout the tournament will also include providing support to NNSWF coaches and development opportunities to all players and coaches.

“This year is an opportunity for our girls' teams to have an impressive Emerging Matildas Championships and build off the 2024 National Youth Championships,” Doidge said.

“I'm excited to have these two squads as our talent identification process this year has been comprehensive.

“We've worked hard across our regional zones with our TSP program to ensure we represent the talent we have across northern NSW.

“Alongside our TSP our strong relationship with the Newcastle Jets have allowed us to select two squads that can compete with other identified players at the national level.”

The Emerging Matildas Championships will be played at Valentine Sports Park, Sydney, from Tuesday 15 July to Sunday 20 July.

All member federations will be represented at the tournament, with NNSWF entering under-15s and 16s girls teams.

Football Association of Malaysia will participate in the Emerging Matildas Championships for the first time. The Malaysian under-15s national team will compete in the under-15s age group, the first international team to compete in the tournament.

“It’s important our players use these championships as a foundation to showcase themselves in front of national team staff,” Doidge said.

“We have had great success in providing junior national teams with players from NNSWF and I look forward to continuing this with our next cohort.

“I hope that our players feel proud and confident to represent their area and showcase the talent pool the footprint holds.

“I wish all the coaches and players the best of luck for the tournament in Sydney. I’m excited to watch them compete over the week.”
