Northern NSW Football’s under-14s squad has represented the region with pride at the 2025 Tokyo Under-14s International Youth Tournament.
NNSWF took one under-14s boys team to the competition with representation from four of the seven member zones. The tournament took place in Tokyo, Japan from 28 April to 9 May.
The squad recorded four defeats during the tournament against Miyagi, Tokyo Verdy, Tokyo Junior High School and Ibaraki but represented NNSWF proudly in an extremely strong international competition.
NNSWF competed to the best of their abilities against some fantastic international squads and have brought back invaluable experiences.
The Tokyo Under-14s International Youth Football Tournament started in 2006 and is organised by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo Sports Benefits Corporation and the Tokyo Football Association.
The tournament is aimed at fostering the development of the next generation by promoting mutual understanding across national borders and enhancing skills of athletes through competition.
NNSWF Technical Director Ryan Doidge said he was proud of his players’ effort throughout the tournament.
“The Tokyo Under-14s International Youth Football Tournament was a fantastic opportunity for players in our Talented Player Pathway to showcase their abilities with and against other exceptional players, not just from across our nation but also internationally,” Doidge said.
“The squad represented Northern NSW Football proudly and should reflect on a difficult tournament against some exceptional teams where the players were able to demonstrate large amounts of determination and enthusiasm while gaining invaluable experience against different footballing cultures.
“A sincere thanks to the staff that attended and contributed to making this trip a memorable one for our players and I look forward to seeing the benefits for our players and staff transcend into future development.”
