Northern NSW Football is delighted to announce its extended squads that will face Newcastle Jets as part of the A-League club’s pre-season preparation.
NNSWF have selected senior men’s and women’s representative teams to play as the Northern NSW All-Stars. They will take on Newcastle Jets’ men’s and women’s teams as part of the A-League club’s pre-season schedule in September.
Similar matches have previously appeared on the football calendar but the formal partnership between Northern NSW Football and Newcastle Jets has cleared the way for the fixtures to return annually.
NNSWF Technical Director Ryan Doidge was pleased to make the announcement.
“I’m really excited about the make up of these two Northern NSW All-Stars squads,” Doidge said.
“I think the extended squads we’ve chosen are full of talented players we’ve identified from NNSWF’s premier competitions from across the whole region and it is a fantastic chance to showcase that talent.
“Providing these opportunities for northern NSW players to compete in a representative environment against professional opposition, and potentially be identified, is a real positive.
“Congratulations to the players selected. I hope they enjoy the build up to the matches and wish those chosen in the final matchday squads all the very best.”
NNSWF’s Technical Department chose the men’s and women’s extended squads made up of the best talent from across northern NSW.
Peter McGuinness and Jim Cresnar will coach the men’s Northern NSW All-Stars while Heath Whyte and Craig Atkins will coach the women’s Northern NSW All-Stars team.
The coaches were selected via a merit-based system and will contribute to the selection of players for the final 18-player matchday squads which will be announced on Monday 15 September.
The extended squads will take part in two training sessions across August before the matchday squad is chosen. The matchday squad will then train twice together the week of the match.
