Northern NSW Football has opened its application process for entry into its 2027 Premier Competitions, continuing the model introduced last year to support sustainable growth across the game.
Applications for the National Premier Leagues Women’s Northern NSW, Premier Youth League Boys and Girls and Junior Development League Boys and Girls competitions will again use the annual application process implemented for the 2026 season, reinforcing NNSWF’s commitment to transparency, consistency and long-term competition integrity.
NNSWF’s Football Operations department will assess all applications against clear criteria including club capability, governance, facility access and overall impact on competition structure and sustainability. Clubs must also submit applications within the designated window and provide a letter of support from their member zone.
NNSWF General Manager Football Operations Liam Bentley said the process ensured all clubs had a defined pathway to enter the region’s top competitions.
“Continuing this application process gives us a clear and consistent platform to grow our premier competitions in a sustainable way,” Bentley said.
“We’ve already seen strong interest since introducing the model and we’re excited about what that means for the future of our women’s, girls’ and boys’ pathways.
“Expanding access to high-quality competitions allows more players to experience the standards required at the next level. That environment is essential for developing talent, supporting clubs and ultimately lifting the overall quality of football across northern NSW.
“There is real momentum in the women’s and girls’ space and this process allows us to build on that in a measured and meaningful way. We want to ensure more players have access to strong development environments while maintaining the integrity and competitiveness of our leagues.
“It gives every club a transparent opportunity to plan, invest and take the next step. That’s important for the long-term health of the game and ensures we continue to build competitions that reflect the strength and diversity of football across our region.”
Competition structures for 2027 will be confirmed following the application and assessment period, which runs from 2 June to 22 June. NNSWF will confirm successful applicants by 31 July.
The NPL Women’s competition will follow the same process as last year, with expansion dependent on the strength and volume of applications, as well as the ability to maintain a competitive and sustainable league.
The Premier Youth League Girls competition will continue to prioritise sustainable growth, with a focus on increasing participation, improving geographic reach and supporting strong development outcomes. The current age group structure will remain, with potential for future expansion.
The Premier Youth League Boys competition will follow the same application framework and assessment principles as the Premier Youth League Girls competition.
Clubs outside the existing premier competition structure remain eligible to apply for entry into the Junior Development League. New applicants must meet minimum entry standards, including achieving bronze-level accreditation.
NNSWF will manage the application process through its Football Operations team, with support available to clubs throughout the submission period.
NNSWF Football Operations & Compliance Coordinator Mitchell O’Keefe will manage the application process. Clubs can contact Mitchell HERE for more information and application assistance.
