Northern NSW Regional Super League Women's Round Three Preview: Coffs City United look for finals spot

Match of the Round
Port United v Coffs City United
Dixie Park, Sunday 24 August, 1pm

Port United will look to secure their first points of the Regional Super League campaign when they host Coffs City United at Dixie Park.

Port United were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Tamworth FC in round one of the RSL before they suffered a disappointing 17-0 loss at the hands of Macleay Valley Rangers.

They sit at the bottom of the RSL Women’s group B table, three points behind their round three opponents but have a minus 18 goal difference.

The beginning of their Football Mid North Coast Women’s League North A campaign has been a difficult, playing just six games and sat at the bottom of the table.

Port United will be hopeful Kate Ainsworth and Georgia Thiveos can repeat their round one performance and get their names back on the scoresheet.

They will look to close out their inaugural RSL season on a high note and secure three points in front of a home crowd.

Coffs City United will be fighting for a spot in the finals series when they travel to face Port United.

Coffs City are third on the RSL Women’s group B table but are on equal points with Tamworth FC in second.

They have had a mixed start to the North Coast Football Women’s HIT105.5FM Premier League with seven wins, two draws and three losses placing them third on the table.

Similar to their HIT105.5FM Premier League campaign they have had one win and one loss in the inaugural season of the Regional Super League.

They will be eager to repeat their round two performance when they defeated Tamworth FC 2-0.

Coffs City United will look to Bo Bodnar, Lily Mackay and Cooper Andrews to find their way back on the scoresheet.

Tamworth FC v Macleay Valley Rangers
Scully Park, Saturday 2 August, 1pm

Macleay Valley Rangers will look to make it three from three when they go head-to-head with Tamworth FC at Gipps Sporting Fields on Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers will be full of confidence when they enter the final group match of the campaign after they defeated Port United FC 17-0 in round two.

They have locked in their spot for the finals weekend but will be eager to go through the group stage undefeated.

Six players got on the scoresheet in their round two victory with standout performances from Rory Ballard (six goals) and Shannon Day (five goals). They will look to recreate their dynamic form and end their league campaign on a high note.

Tamworth will be determined to secure a spot in the finals series as they look for their second win of the competition.

They sit second on the RSL Women’s group B table but are on equal points with Coffs City United, inching ahead on goal difference.

A win this weekend will see them lock in second place and secure a place in the finals weekend in October.

They will look to goal scorers Chloe Nott, Clare Hughes and Courtney Slater to repeat their round one performance and find the back of the net again this weekend.

Oxley Vale Attunga v Urunga FC
Scully Park, Saturday 2 August, 3pm

Urunga FC will hope to keep the good times rolling when they travel to Gipps Street Sporting Fields to take on Oxley Vale Attunga on Saturday.

Urunga played their second RSL game at the beginning of July when they hosted Lake Cathie FC.

The two sides could not be separated when the full-time whistle blew but Lake Cathie secured a win on penalties.

But Urunga got bragging rights when they defeated Lake Cathie 1-0 in the NNSW Women’s Community Plate Final earlier this month.

Urunga FC will look to replicate their dominant round two victory where they defeated Armidale City Westside 8-0.

They showed that they have no shortage in attack with Kate Jandzio-Fry, Eibhlin Kealy-Banks and Ellouise Brown each getting themselves on the scoresheet in their round two victory.

Oxley Vale Attunga will look to bounce back from their 10-0 defeat at the hands of Lake Cathie in round two of the RSL.

OVA are unable to make finals as they sit last on the table with a negative 15 goal difference.

They will look to end their competition run on a high and secure their first points of the campaign.

Armidale City Westside v Lake Cathie FC

Armidale City Westside have forfeited, with Lake Cathie to record a 3-0 victory.
