Adamstown Rosebud 1-1 Lake Macquarie City FC
Lake Macquarie City FC coach Pete Preston was glad his side were rewarded for their efforts after they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Adamstown Rosebud FC on
The two sides created opportunities but was unable to break the deadlock in the first half.
Adamstown finally edged ahead in the 54th minute, when Dylan Bozinovski was brought down inside the penalty area.
Dane Lawther stepped up with a strong strike and converted the penalty.
But the young Roosters side continued to put up a fight and eventually found the equaliser in the final minute of regular time.
Shukurani Sunzu ducked and weaved around the Adamstown defence to find himself at the edge of the penalty area. He struck the ball across the face of the goal which found the feet of substitute Theodor Skarp, who tapped it into the back of the net.
The scoreline remained deadlocked at 1-1 with the two bottom-of-the-table teams walking away with one point each.
Peston thought his side had enough chances to win the game but was proud of how they fought back to secure a crucial point for their season.
“We were slow to start the game but once we got into it we got some confidence and made some chances,” Preston said.
“We didn’t capatlise on our chances in the first half and then missed a crucial chance early in the second.
“We didn’t deserve to lose.
“But I am happy that we got to have a crack at them the end and get rewarded.
“It’s good to come away with something.”
The Roosters continue to sit at the bottom of the table but Preston believed the point would help them stay alive in the competition.
“The point keeps us connected with Adamstown now,” Preston said.
“We will keep believing and keep pushing.
“The boys are still upbeat but are obviously disappointed they couldn't get the win.”
