Adamstown Rosebud JFC 6-0 Warners Bay FC

Adamstown Rosebud’s Technical Director Shane Lewis was thrilled for his side to secure back-to-back wins after a dominant 6-0 victory over Warners Bay FC on Saturday night.

Rosebud came out of the blocks firing in the pouring rain and opened the scoring in the eighth minute.

Tori Johnson received the ball inside the penalty area and was able to turn on her defender and strike a spectacular shot into the top right corner of the net.

Mia Cook doubled the home side’s advantage in the 21st minute off a free kick.

Tori Johnson scored her second of the night and tenth of the season in the 33rd minute to take the scoreline to 3-0 into the half-time break.

Rosebud struck again in the 60th minute with Johnson slicing the ball across the face of the goal for Cook to tap past goalkeeper Ruby Jones.

Things went from bad to worse for the Panthers when they gave away a penalty for a handball inside the penalty area in the 62nd minute. Jenna Doyle stepped up and converted from the spot to extend Adamstown’s lead to 5-0.

The final nail was put in the coffin for the Bay three minutes later when Courtney Anderson smashed the ball on the half-volley into the back of the net.

Lewis was pleased with his side’s performance and their ability to keep a clean sheet for a second week in a row in tough conditions.

“I think we were dominant without being great in conditions that made it difficult to play our style,” Lewis said.

“The ball kept skidding along the ground, as it was a really fast surface.

“We still wanted to play our style of football we weren’t going to change that, but we had to focus on our touch and choose the right moments to execute our build-up.

“It was really pleasing to keep a clean sheet for the second week in a row. Olivia (Sneddon) is doing a really good job at the back.

“We didn’t give Warners Bay any opportunities on goal or anything to worry about.”

The win has seen Adamstown move back up into fifth position on the table, two points ahead of New Lambton and four points behind Charlestown Azzurri in fourth.

Lewis said his side have the belief that they can disrupt the competition and credits the impact of their newest signings.

“I think Zoë Horgan and Leah O’Hagan have added some stability and reliability to our squad and to see people like them with their caliber in our colours is so important for our club,”

‘We are building something and the players now have some belief that we can compete with the bigger clubs.”

Before Martin Slade and his side have the weekend off with a break in the competition for the long weekend, they will face Newcastle Olympic at Darling Street Oval on Wednesday night in their round eight rescheduled fixture.

Warners Bay’s horror season continues to go downhill as they sit at the bottom of the table, without a point since round one.

They will not get the weekend off and will have another tough task ahead of them when they travel to Cooks Square Park to go head-to-head with Maitland FC on Sunday.
