The 2024 Zone Football League season is in full swing with the return of promotion and relegation and the historic connection of the football pyramid to make it one of the most anticipated seasons in memory.
The Zone Football League, including the Zone League One, Zone League Two and Zone League three competitions, is administered by the Newcastle Football, Macquarie Football and Hunter Valley Football member zones.
NNSWF and the three member zones announced last year that the men’s Hunter football pyramid would be connected for the first time from the NPL Men’s NNSW and HIT106.9 Northern League One competitions through to Zone League One, Two and Three, allowing for the return of promotion and relegation.
Zone Football League One
The race for promotion is intensifying for Zone League One teams, with the 2024 premiers automatically promoted to the HIT106.9 Northern League One competition in 2025.
Newcastle Suns sit at the top of the table with a four-point lead over Newcastle Olympic in second position (12 points) and Warners Bay in third position (10 points). But with all teams having multiple games in hand, the quest for the top spot is still open.
Minmi FC remains at the bottom of the table as they continue to search for their first points of the season.
Zone Football League Two
Zone League Two’s competition has heated up with two teams edging ahead of the pack in the fight to be promoted into Zone League One at the end of the season.
Last year’s grand final winners Newcastle Croatia have started their push for promotion, as they sit at the top of the table with 12 points from five matches. Stockton are second on goal difference, while New Lambton Juniors FC and Cooks Hill United trail them by five points.
South Maitland FC continues to sit at the bottom of the table with one point, with Mayfield United JSFC one point clear in the race to avoid relegation.
Zone Football League Three
All 12 teams continue to fight it out for the chance to finish at the top of the table and be promoted to Zone League Two in 2025.
Nelson Bay FC remains at the top of the table with 15 points after seven rounds and are two points clear of Lambton Jaffas JSC. Bellbird JFC is one point behind with 12 points before a two-point drop to Barnsley FC.
Lake Macquarie City FC and Southern Lakes continue to search for their first points of the season as they remain the bottom two teams on the table with zero points.
NNSW Men’s NPL
After 11 rounds of the NPL Men’s NNSW competition, Adamstown Rosebud, Lake Macquarie City FC and New Lambton FC continue to sit at the foot of the table and are most at risk of relegation at this stage in the season. Adamstown has two points, while Lakes have three with New Lambton a further point clear.
The team who comes last in NPL will be relegated to HIT106.9 Northern League One in 2025, while the team that finishes 11th must survive the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Series to feature in NPL next season.
HIT106.9 Northern League One
Belmont Swansea United have continued to lead the charge at the top of the table with BelSwans nine points clear of second on the 106.9 Northern League One table after nine rounds.
South Cardiff FC, Thornton Redbacks and West Wallsend SFC are in line to be a part of the promotion play-offs.
Wallsend FC sit at the bottom of the table with three points from 10 matches and are five points behind Singleton Strikers.
No HIT106.9 teams will be relegated in 2024.
