Referee recruitment boost for 2025

Northern NSW Football is delighted to announce multiple upcoming referee courses across the region to help boost match official numbers for 2025.

NNSWF will host multiple C3 Junior Football Referee Courses at a number of locations across northern NSW, aimed at giving an opportunity to males and females of all ages to take up the whistle.

The C3 Junior Football Referee Course, known as the Level 4 Course, is available to anyone over the age of 13 and is an entry point for those who seek to officiate in junior football leagues organised by member federations.

The process to become a referee involves completing two sets of online learning modules on the Laws of the Game and effective match control as a new match official before attending a three-hour practical skills session.

All participants who complete the course will acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to start refereeing and managing junior matches while emphasising the importance of player development and safety.

Whether you are a player, past player, parent, club volunteer or new to football you could have a future in being a match official.

General Manager Referee Growth & Development Brad Carlin said that he was excited about the future of refereeing in our region.

“Northern NSW Football is scheduling as many C3 courses as possible over the coming six months to maximise the number of opportunities for people to take up officiating,” Carlin said.

“There are so many benefits to becoming a referee including the chance to earn money, giving back to the game, staying fit and active, building leadership skills, making new friends and gaining a greater understanding of the Laws of the Game.”

“For an initial outlay of $183, anyone 13 years of age or older will receive all the referee training, clothing and equipment they need, plus their registration and insurance, to successfully take up the whistle.

“Upcoming courses are being held at Speers Point, Mayfield West, Scone, Ballina, Goonellabah, Crescent Head, Tamworth, Armidale, and Coffs Harbour. Registrations for the courses are now open to persons as soon as they complete the initial set of online modules.”
