School Futsal Nationals wrap up for six northern NSW teams

The School Futsal National Championships came to a close last Wednesday after three hard-fought days of competition.

Schools from across Australia travelled to Brisbane to showcase their impressive skill from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 November.

Six teams represented Northern NSW Football after qualifying at the NNSWF School Futsal Championships held in August and September.

Great Lakes College Tuncurry represented in the under-13s boys and open boys, while Mackillop College competed in the under-13s girls.

Ballina Coast High School took part in the under-15s boys, along with Bishop Druitt College who also competed in the open girls competition.

Bishop Druitt College open girls narrowly missed out on featuring in the grand final after a narrow loss in the final pool game, while Great Lakes College Tuncurry open boys, a team made up entirely of 16-years-olds, finished fourth in their pool.

The remaining four teams fell just short of reaching the finals after featuring in highly competitive pool games.

North Coast Football referee Kiarah Gray also represented NNSWF at the event, following the completion of her Online Futsal Laws of the Game earlier this year.

NNSWF Futsal Development Manager Damon Shaw was delighted that NNSWF was able to showcase their skills on the national stage.

“The School Futsal National Championships showcase the best of the best and give state champions the chance to participate against new opponents,” Shaw said.

“I am delighted that NNSWF were represented on the national stage and we will continue to support schools to provide futsal opportunities to their students with programs such as Sporting Schools.”
