Swansea Football Club was buzzing on Sunday as 96 teams from across the region came together for a day of football, laughter and community.
The annual gala day at Chapman Oval welcomed players from under-5s through to under-11s, with teams from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast filling the fields throughout the day.
With every team guaranteed four games, the festival gave hundreds of young players the chance to get on the pitch, develop their skills and, most importantly, enjoy playing football.
The non-competitive format kept the focus on participation and fun, giving players the freedom to enjoy the game without the pressure of results.
For Swansea FC President Billie Price, the gala was a fitting way to bring the club community together and cap off another season.
“Our annual gala featuring 96 teams from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Central Coast was a huge success, capping off another amazing season and bringing all teams together for a day full of laughter and fun,” Price said.
From players taking their first steps into football in the under-5s to the under-11s continuing to build their skills and confidence, the gala gave young footballers the chance to experience the excitement of being part of a large community event.
But the action on the field was only part of what made the day special.
Families, coaches, referees and volunteers came together from across the region, creating an atmosphere where young players could make new friends, meet other clubs and enjoy a shared love of the game.
Price said the support of the Swansea FC community played a huge role in making the gala possible.
“Our gala would not be what it is without the support of every parent who volunteered their time, our referees who have been with us every weekend throughout the year, our sponsors for their constant support and all the families who attended the day and made our gala what it is,” Price said.
That support reflected the community spirit behind the event, with parents volunteering their time, referees giving up their weekends and sponsors continuing to back the club throughout the season.
For Swansea FC, the gala is about more than hosting a day of football. It is about bringing people together, creating memories for young players and celebrating the community that makes the club what it is.
With 96 teams taking to the fields, families cheering from the sidelines and young players enjoying football simply for the love of the game, Swansea FC’s Gala Day was a fitting celebration of another season of community football.
