The northern NSW football community is mourning the passing of much-loved former player, coach, commentator and friend Chris Turner, who sadly passed away on Friday.

Affectionately known as “CT”, Turner was a highly respected figure throughout the game in the region. His passion for football has left a lasting impact on countless players, coaches, supporters and colleagues.

Whether on the pitch, in the technical area or behind the microphone, Turner brought energy, knowledge and authenticity to football in northern NSW. He dedicated so much of his life to the game and became a familiar and trusted voice.

Turner, a former player and coach with Lake Macquarie City FC and West Wallsend SFC and Maitland FC coach, had connections with a number of clubs and was a mate to many across the football community. CT was also well known for his work as an analyst and sideline reporter on NPL NNSW broadcasts, delivering expert analysis and humour in equal measure.

Many across the football community were heartbroken by Turner’s passing, with tributes flowing for a man remembered not only for his contribution to football but also for his warmth, generosity and love for the people around him.

Northern NSW Football CEO Peter Haynes offered his condolences on behalf of the northern NSW football family.

“Chris gave so much to football in northern NSW over a long period of time and his loss will be felt deeply across our entire community,” Haynes said.

“He was passionate about the game and passionate about people. Whether he was coaching, commentating or simply supporting football in any way he could, Chris always gave everything he had.

“He was someone who genuinely cared for others and had a wonderful ability to connect with people through football. His kindness and generosity were always there for everyone to see. If you ever bumped into CT at a game, he would always greet you with a smile, a handshake and be up for a chat.

“On behalf of everyone at Northern NSW Football and across our football family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Chris’ family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him during this incredibly difficult time.”
