Westlakes Wildcats FC named Club Changer of the Month for March

Northern NSW Football is pleased to announce Westlakes Wildcats FC as its Club Changer of the Month for March.

Club Changer is Football Australia’s Club Development program, which aims to enhance clubs for long-term viability and success.

This month’s Club Changer focus was participation. Westlakes Wildcats is focused on increasing participation with a specific interest in female involvement.

In 2026, Westlakes introduced a dedicated Girls Development Squad Program targeting players aged 12-18 years old, with the clear objective of increasing female participation and retention in football within the region.

The club made the strategic decision to create the program to form a structured pathway designed specifically to support girls during their crucial development years.

Westlakes is focused on participation and aims to bridge the gap between community football and representative pathways. The program is structured to build confidence, support skill development and promote long-term retention.

The Wildcats are an open and inclusive club that ensures no player is excluded due to ability level or financial capacity.

Westlakes Wildcats president James O’Shea is passionate about female involvement and was thrilled his club was recognised for their hard work.

“Participation is the foundation of everything we do,” O’Shea said.

“By proactively addressing the 12-18 years retention gap and investing in girls football development without a financial motive, Westlakes Wildcats is actively strengthening the future of the women’s game in our region.

“We believe this initiative embodies the spirit of the Club Changer Program. Sustainable growth, inclusivity and meaningful action that supports football for all.”
