2022 NPL NNSW Grand Finals: Olympic, Adamstown dominate lower grade deciders
Adamstown Rosebud JFC and Newcastle Olympic have dominated lower grade NPL NNSW grand finals on Saturday.
Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility hosted the NPL Men's NNSW and NPL Women's NNSW lower grade deciders, with the first grade grand finals to be played at No.2 Sportsground on Sunday.
Under-13s, 15s, 17s and reserve grade NPL Women's NNSW champions would be crowned, while the under-18s and reserve grade NPL Men's NNSW grand finals were also to be decided.
NPLW NNSW Under-13s Grand Final
Adamstown Rosebud JFC 2-1 Charlestown Azzurri
Adamstown Rosebud JFC were to feature in three NPLW NNSW lower grade grand finals and got their day off to the perfect start by downing Charlestown Azzurri 2-1 in the under-13s decider.
Hanna Abson gave Adamstown the lead after 12 minutes before Tayah McVittie doubled Rosebud's advantage seven minutes later.
Azzurri pulled a goal back through Jasmin Smith on 52 minutes but it was not enough as Ryan Campbell's team added the championship to their premiership, having finished top of the table by 11 points.
NPLW NNSW Under-15s Grand Final
Adamstown Rosebud JFC 4-0 Maitland FC
Adamstown Rosebud JFC's day got even better when they defeated Maitland 4-0 in the under-15s grand final.
Abby Vromans gave Adamstown the perfect start when she put Rosebud in the lead after five minutes.
The Magpies, who finished 15 points clear at the top of the table to win the premiership, were still in the match at half-time with Adamstown taking their slender one-goal lead to the break. But Ella Kingett doubled Rosebud's advantage on 38 minutes before Vromans scored her second nine minutes later.
Charlie Deacon sealed the result for Olivia Sneddon's side with her goal in the 68th minute as Adamstown ran out deserved winners.
NPLW NNSW Under-17s Grand Final
Adamstown Rosebud JFC 5-5 Newcastle Olympic (Newcastle Olympic won 4-2 on penalties)
Newcastle Olympic took out the under-17s championship when they beat Adamstown Rosebud JFC on penalties after playing out an incredible 5-5 draw
Olympic were looking to add the championship to their premiership having finished eight points clear of Adamstown at the top of the table.
And they got off to a blistering start with two goals inside the opening seven minutes to Tori Johnson and Larissa Ryan.
Rosebud were able to compose themselves and pulled a goal back on 28 minutes through Jasmin Thompson.
Olympic led 2-1 at half-time before the match exploded in the second half.
Poppy Sinclair made it 3-1 to Olympic after the break before two goals in three minutes to Riyani Puxty and Ash Vetter had Adamstown level.
Ava McGann restored Olympic's lead only for Vetter to level for Adamstown in the 72nd minute.
Sophie Chandler then looked to have won it for Rosebud with a goal late on, only for McGann to score her second a minute later to send the game to extra time.
The teams could not be separated, with the championship to be decided via a penalty shootout.
And it was Olympic that held their nerve from the spot to secure a premiership-championship double.
NPLW NNSW Reserve Grade Grand Final
Broadmeadow Magic 2-3 Newcastle Olympic
Newcastle Olympic lifted their second championship of the day as they overcame Broadmeadow Magic 3-2 in the reserve grade grand final.
Callie Thomas had Olympic in front in the second minute before Olympic's Piper Richards turned the ball into her own net for Magic to draw level.
Rosie Copus and Sophie McDonald scored in the 27th and 28th minutes to put Olympic 3-1 in front and seemingly cruising towards the title.
But Rhiannon Deniss' effort just before half-time dragged Broadmeadow back into the contest.
While it was an all-action first half, it was a much quieter second with Magic unable to find an equaliser as Olympic held on to secure the title.
NPLM NNSW Under-18s Grand Final
Lambton Jaffas 2-2 Edgeworth FC (Lambton Jaffas won 7-6 on penalties)
Lambton Jaffas took out the under-18s NPLM NNSW grand final on penalties after coming from behind to play out a 2-2 draw with Edgeworth.
Edgeworth led 2-0 after goals from Ryan Blackburn and Baxter Ashbourne inside the opening half hour to give the premiers a strong advantage.
But Lambton refused to quit and pulled a goal back before half-time through Myles Gaffney.
Riley Parker then equalised for Jaffas just past the hour mark, with the sides unable to find a winner.
They were still unable to be separated after extra-time, with the match going to a penalty shootout.
And it was Lambton who held their nerve from the spot to seal the championship.
NPLM NNSW Reserve Grade Grand Final
Newcastle Olympic 1-0 Edgeworth FC
A 10th minute Daniel McKinnon penalty was enough for Newcastle Olympic to take out the NPLM NNSW reserve grade grand final with a 1-0 victory over Edgeworth.
Olympic completed the premiership-championship double, having finished 10 points clear of the Eagles at the top of the table.
McKinnon's spot kick gave Olympic the lead early on, an advantage they would not surrender.
Olympic were reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes to play when striker Vincent Unie was show his second yellow card.
Edgeworth also finished the match a man short when goalkeeper Ben Conway was adjudged to have denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity with five minutes to play.
The Eagles pushed for an equaliser but Olympic held on to give the club its third championship for the day.
