2023 Australia Cup nomination deadline extended

The nomination deadline for the 2023 Australia Cup has been extended to Thursday 2 February.

Nominations are open to all football clubs across northern NSW, with the deadline extension to give more clubs the opportunity to be part of the prestigious tournament.

All NPL Men’s NNSW and HIT106.9 Northern League One clubs are required to enter, with community clubs from across the member federation also invited.

The format for 2023 will remain the same for the Southern Conference with Zone Football League and community clubs to enter from the opening round, with NL1 and NPL Men’s NNSW clubs to follow in subsequent rounds.

The main change to the 2023 tournament will see rounds six and seven played at club venues rather than the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, with an open draw between the qualifying Northern Conference and Southern Conference teams to determine match locations.

This decision was based on feedback from participating clubs, with the aim to see more matches at club venues.

LMRFF will be on standby in the event of forecast inclement weather, with NNSWF reserving the right to reschedule games to LMRFF to ensure all matches are played as scheduled.

NNSWF General Manager Football Operations Liam Bentley said the Australia Cup was a fantastic opportunity for community clubs.

“We’ve extended team nominations for the 2023 Australia Cup until close of business on Thursday because we know this time of year can be difficult for clubs and volunteers and we don’t want anyone to miss out,” Bentley said.

“The Australia Cup is a great chance for community clubs to showcase their skills and talent against the best players from our region and potentially on the national stage.

“We want to give all clubs every chance to experience the magic of the cup.”

The draw for the opening rounds will be held on Monday 6 February with opening round matches to be played in March. Official dates for match rounds will follow.

Round seven fixtures involving Northern Conference clubs will be played on Monday 12 June. In the event only Southern Conference clubs qualify for round seven, fixtures will be played on Tuesday 20 June or Wednesday 21 June at club venues.
