Fixtures announced for 2025 HIT106.9 Northern League One competition

Lake Macquarie City FC will start life in HIT106.9 Northern League One when they host South Cardiff FC in the opening round of the 2025 season.

Lakes were relegated from the NPL Men’s NNSW competition in 2024 and will open the HIT106.9 Northern League One season against South Cardiff at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Friday 14 March.

The new season will see the reintroduction of relegation to Zone League One as a part of connecting the pyramid between NNSWF’s premier men’s competitions, with the team that finishes last on the table to drop into the Zone Football League.

HIT106.9 Northern League One will also return to a 10-team competition with the addition of Dudley Redhead United who were promoted from Zone League One. The Thistles will travel to Lyall Peacock Oval to take on Toronto Awaba FC on Saturday 15 March to open their first season at this level since 2010.

Elsewhere in round one, Cessnock City Hornets will welcome Singleton Strikers to Turner Park and West Wallsend FC will meet Thornton Redbacks at Johnston Park on Saturday 15 March. Kahibah FC will make the trip to Ladbrokes Gardens to face Wallsend FC on Sunday 16 March.

The team that finishes first in HIT106.9 Northern League One will again be promoted to NPL Men’s NNSW for 2026 following the return of promotion/relegation last season.

The finals series will remain the same consisting of a Promotion/Relegation Play-Off series between the teams that finish second, third and fourth in HIT106.9 Northern League One and the team that finishes 11th in the NPL Men’s NNSW to determine the 12th team in NPL Men’s NNSW in 2026.

Northern NSW Football General Manager Football Operations Liam Bentley said he looked forward to another entertaining season in the HIT106.9 Northern League One competition.

“Last season was one of the most thrilling HIT106.9 Northern League One seasons we’ve had, with Belmont Swansea being crowned premiers and automatically promoted to the NPL Men’s NNSW competition, while Toronto Awaba narrowly missed out on promotion against Adamstown Rosebud in the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off final,” Bentley said.

“Lake Macquarie City FC and Dudley Redhead United will join HIT106.9 Northern League One in 2025 and we look forward to seeing what they can bring to the competition with promotion and relegation back to raise the stakes.

“We have made a concerted effort to spread the matches for each league throughout the weekend this season, with more Friday night football and multiple time slots on Saturdays and Sundays to make it easier for everyone to get to or watch more games than ever before.

“We can’t wait to kick off the season and wish all 10 teams all the best for 2025.”

There will also be special commemorative rounds for Mental Health Week from 17 to 23 March, Female Football Week from 2 to 11 May, Heartbeat of Football Round from 10 May to 1 June, Pride Round from 20 to 22 June and Indigenous Round from 18 to 20 July.
